County Receives Grant Funding Notices

June 20, 2010 ... The County of Bergen recently received Notices of Obligation from the New Jersey Department of Labor & Workforce Development for funding to support the Bergen One Stop Career Center for the time period July 1, 2010 – June 30, 2011. Bergen County Technical Schools serves as administrative and fiscal entity for all of these workforce development funds. The grant amounts are as follows:

Workforce Investment Act $3,302,407

Work First New Jersey $1,782,317

Workforce Learning Link $ 296,775

Workforce Investment Act funds support initiatives, including individual training grants, for economically disadvantaged or dislocated workers. Last year, nearly 700 clients received training grants supported by WIA and American Recovery and Reinvestment Act funds. WIA funds also support programs for economically disadvantaged or at-risk youth.

Work First New Jersey monies support job training for individuals receiving public assistance. This includes mandatory classroom sessions, community service activities, and intensive workplace readiness programs. We recently sent out letters of commitment to nine local agencies who will provide services to recipients of Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF) and General Assistance/Food Stamps (GA/FS). These include: the Department of Human Services, Women’s Rights’ Information Center, New Jersey Department of Labor & Workforce Development, Bergen County Community Action Partnership, Team Management 2000, Teaneck Women & Train, Care Plus, the Board of Social Services, and Bergen Community College.

Workforce Learning Link is a grant from the New Jersey Department of Labor & Workforce Development and NJN Public Television and Radio, which supports literacy labs at four sites: One-Stop in Hackensack, BCC Ciarco Learning Center in Hackensack, the Conklin Youth Home in Hackensack, and Head Start in Garfield.
