Additional Bulk Training Programs Planned
January 4, 2011 ... The Bergen One Stop Career Center (BOSCC) and Workforce Investment Board (WIB) are planning two additional bulk training sessions in conjunction with Bergen Community College in the near future. This follows the recent successful training of 13 individuals as Electronic Technicians, who are now employed at Crestron Electronics, Inc. The initiative, part of the NJ Training on Demand program, is sponsored by the New Jersey Department of Labor & Workforce Development (LWD) in cooperation with the NJ Community College Consortium for Workforce and Economic Development.
Funds for the initiative are provided by the One Stop with American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) monies. The original Memorandum of Understanding between the parties called for $47,890 of Adult & Dislocated Worker funds to be used on bulk training. Due to the success of the Crestron training and the addition of more ARRA funding received on September 30, 2010, up to $45,000 extra has been earmarked for bulk training.
As in the previous initiative, the College will design the courses and offer them to meet the needs of the participating employers.
A 144-hour bank teller training program will begin at the college in early January for up to 20 candidates. After graduating from the program, the individuals will be placed in neighboring banks. Soon thereafter, another training program will begin at Crestron for electronic technicians.
