Disaster Relief Employment Program Unveiled to Local Officials
November 1, 2011... The
Bergen One-Stop Career Center and County of Bergen unveiled a Disaster
Relief Employment Program recently to officials from municipalities
hardest hit by Hurricane Irene. The County will receive a $1,280,315
National Emergency Grant (NEG) from the New Jersey Department of Labor
and Workforce Development (LWD) to administer a program through the
BOSCC to create temporary employment to assist with clean-up
activities.
The
BOSCC anticipates employing upwards of 100 individuals to assist the
clean-up and restoration as well as work on projects that provide food,
clothing, shelter and other humanitarian assistance for disaster
victims. These temporary jobs are open to workers who have been
temporarily or permanently dislocated as a result of the disaster and
individuals who are long-term unemployed and not collecting any type of
income support.
The program will run from November 14, 2011 through February 29, 2012.
