The first step is to attend an information/re-employment session to register for services.

Job seekers must attend an initial Information Session, where details on services and related One Stop requirements will be provided. Some programs, such as training for example, have eligibility requirements. Sessions are on held Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday at 8:45 am and 12:45 pm, and periodically 8:45 am on Friday, conducted in Spanish. Sessions are held on the First Floor of the One Stop at 60 State Street, Bergen Street Entrance. See calendar for more details.

Individuals who are economically disadvantaged or dislocated in their job by a layoff may be eligible to receive an individual training grant (ITA) up to $4,000. Clients can chose from a number of leading post-secondary schools or colleges, provided the school is approved by the LWD and the field is deemed a demand occupation. Unemployed workers may also be eligible to receive a Tuition Waiver to attend class, tuition free, at a New Jersey public college or university. Individuals who are interested in obtaining a GED or who need basic educational skills in reading or math may qualifiy for classroom study.

The following services are available for individuals seeking employment.

Job Search Assistance and Placement is available on an individual basis for job matching, job development and referrals to employers. See a clerk at the 1st floor Information Desk.

Veterans Services - If you are a qualified veteran of the U.S. military, a Veterans Representative is available to assist you with Job Search activities. The Jobs for Veterans Act affords priority of service to covered veterans and eligible spouses over non-covered persons for the receipt of employment, training and placement services provided under new or existing job training programs funded in whole, or in part, by the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL). Job (Positive) Recruitments are held at the Business Resource Center, 1st floor, to give job seekers access to employers eager to hire qualified workers. Please see calendar for details.

Jobs4Jersey is the state's site that allows job seekers to list resumes, search a nationwide listing of job openings, research demand occupations and training institutions free of charge. Website: http://www.jobs4jersey.com.

Unemployment Insurance is available for laid off workers. For new claims call: 201-601-4100 or (English) - 201-601-4112 (Spanish), or apply online at http://www.nj.gov/labor/ui/apponline.html. Individuals who are having difficulties with their claim can speak with a UI representative on a first-come, first-served basis. Phone lines and computers are available on site for claimants.

Services for People with Disabilities - If you have a documented disability and your disability prevents you from getting or keeping a job, contact DVR (Division of Vocational Rehabilitation Services) for assistance at 201-996-8970. 55 and Over Program - If you are 55 and over and have low income, the Easter Seals/55+ program offers various job search assistance programs. To obtain more information, see a clerk in Room 202 or call Elaine Lee at 201-329-9600 x 5715.

Professional Services Group (PSG) is a volunteer, networking group in which members help each other find employment through workshops and employer contact activities. Contact Bruce Lauber 201-329-9600 x 5755 for more information.

The Entrepreneurial Training Program for the Unemployed (ETPU) assists qualified unemployed individuals in becoming self-employed and starting a business in New Jersey. For more information, call Bruce Lauber 201-329-9600 x5755 or visit the State's website.

Training and Workshops - If you need to upgrade your present skills or need to be re-trained in order to return to the job market, you must attend a Career Beacon Training Workshop. For details, please attend an Information Session.

E-Learning (E-Connect) is a job training opportunity that offers participants the ability to access over 2,500 online courses from various career fields. Many courses are certified for college credit and/or Continuing Education Units (CEU's). For details please attend an Information Session.

Classroom Training & Additional Benefits (ABT) - if you have not been able to find employment after documented participation in core and intensive services, your case manager may discuss training options with you.

  • You may be eligible for Additional Unemployment Benefits while in Training (ABT) no matter how your training is funded, but only if a LWD counselor approves your training plan before you enroll and your Unemployment claim meets certain requirements.
  • Tuition Waivers for qualified unemployed individuals, issued by the NJ State Employment Service, allow attendance of courses at public colleges, if there is space after paying students have registered. Courses must be in an identifiable job skill in a demand occupation. For details, please attend an Information Session.

The Workforce Learning Link provides adult learners with GED (high school equivalency diploma) preparation and the ability to upgrade educational skills in reading, writing and math. For an assessment, call Helen Gonzalez, 201-329-9600 x5648.

The Displaced Homemaker Program at the One Stop is for for individuals who have been dependent on the income of another household member; but due to changes, must now support themselves and/or their family. Youth Services for low-income and at-risk individuals ages 14 through 21 include improvement of educational competencies connections to employers, mentoring, training, supportive services, and opportunities related to leadership, decision making, citizenship, and community service.
